Maxxis Shorty II Tyre

The updated and improved second generation mid-spike tyre, optimised for winter slop and dusty conditions

Recommended Use: All Mountain/Trail Enduro Downhill

Description

What technology does it use in its construction?

The Shorty II comes in a range of configurations mainly biased toward gravity based disciplines in the MTB world, all equipped with Tubeless Ready technology and Maxxis' proprietary 3C triple compound blend. The Downhill casing 3C Maxx Grip combination delivers impeccable support and protection against the harshest of terrain whilst providing optimal traction, much like the Double Down casing variation with a lighter weight carcass making it easier to pedal on the long and technical Enduro days. Also available is the popular EXO casing with the intermediate level of grip from the 3C Maxx Terra compound, optimised for All Mountain and Trail use.

What is the intended use?

The Shorty II has been developed and improved on the much loved and popular original tyre, perfect for winter conditions in the cold, wet and mud but also performing equally is well in the thick dust and looser terrains across the gravity MTB disciplines. Optimised based on feedback from elite level Downhill and Enduro riders across the world, the second generation of mid-spike tyre features a revised tread pattern, slimmer casing and added sipes for better braking and cornering traction, lower weight and improved mud-shedding abilities.

Our verdict

A new an improved fan favourite, the go to Maxxis tyre for when the dirt is loose and grip is paramount.

Details & Technology

Casing (choose from the following)

  • Downhill

The Downhill casing from Maxxis is the ultimate in protection for aggressive enduro and downhill riding. It has a butyl insert in the side of the tyre for support when the going gets rough

  • EXO

EXO casing is the most popular casing from Maxxis, and features a densely woven fabric which is flexible and lightweight to protect against cuts and punctures. This is recommended for trail riding, all mountain and occasional enduro

  • Double Down

The Double Down casing has two 120 TPI layers with a reinforced butyl insert to provide support, and protection for enduro and some downhill riding, without the added weight of a full downhill casing

Compound (choose from the following)

  • 3C Maxx Grip

Three different compounds (3C), harder at the base, softer at the edges and medium in the middle. Maxx Grip uses the softest rubber for more of the tyre to prioritise grip and traction. Best used in downhill or steep trail riding where maintaining speed is not an issue

  • 3C Maxx Terra

Three different compounds (3C), harder at the base, softer at the edges and medium in the middle. Maxx Terra is an intermediate blend to roll fast but still give good supportive grip. Designed to be used across all mountain biking disciplines from XC to downhill
